1Password for Wear OS

Wear OS 5.1, based on Android 15, was just released. This new version provides support for the  Credential Manager API.

TBH, I don't know how it works, but I found an option for Chrome Password Manager under "Settings > Passwords" to select Chrome Password Manager.

My idea is to check if new feature could be interesting to implement in 1Password. It would be nice to be able to login a website using a passkey from the watch. Again, I don't know how it works, because I don't use Chrome Password Manager, so it would be nice to do some research or even a small PoC.

Other  feature that would be very nice, but that one related to 1Password for Wear OS, it would be the possibility to check the OTP codes directly into the watch instead of opening the app. But that's a suggestion for a possible Wear OS support.

Here is the link for the release to use in the emulator: https://developer.android.com/training/wearables/versions/5-1

QUICK UPDATE: I found this piece of news that shows a screenshot of a Google I/O slide that mentions Dashlane, another popular, yet not that good, password manager: https://mezha.media/en/2024/11/26/wear-os-5-1-test-version-based-on-android-15-released-for-developers/

  • Hello mhalano! 👋

It's really great to see that Wear OS now supports the Credential Manager API. That being said, there isn't currently a 1Password app for Wear OS. While I can't make any promises, I've filed a feature request on your behalf to have our product team look into supporting Wear OS in the future.

Thank you for the feedback and for the request!
