3 years agoTouchID stopped working since iOS16 [Fixed. Please see the approved answer for details.]

.
Since I updated to iO16, TouchID is no longer recognized by apps. The TouchID dialog appears, but then terminates as if the finger is not recognized. 1Password then falls back to the login code. Other apps, such as one for signing PDFs, report "Authentication not successful". When I disable TouchID in 1Password Settings, the switch remains grayed out and cannot be enabled. I reinstalled 1Password, now it tries to use TouchID again and falls back to the LogIn code at the first finger touch.
It seems that apps in general have problems accessing the security engine, otherwise TouchID works for all other areas like unlock, wallet cards, etc..

Hi Ben,
It's not the answer I would like to hear, but it's an answer. Thank you for that
I don't understand very well what is exactly the problem, but I'm not a developper
As you said, it's a very very frustrating situation and I hope good news for 2023 - jdiv726New Contributor
1P_Ben Thank you for the update Ben. However could you please explain what is meant by "logistics" when it comes to a software update? I don't think I've ever heard that word used in that context in my 40+ years of using computers. Doesn’t mean it hasn't, just that I've never run across it.

As Grey noted, engineering has created a fix for the problem. The difficulty is in the logistics of getting that fix into the hands of customers. Our intention is to ship an update as soon as we can, but we have to overcome those logistical hurdles. It won't be until after the 1st of the year, I'm afraid, and then I couldn't say more specifically when it will be after that.
I understand the situation is frustrating and that you'd appreciate more communication, but that is all of the information I have available at the moment. I too am very anxious to see this fix rolled out.

Hi,
GreyM1P on November 19 :
It's not just you. There is a bug in the currently-available version of 1Password for iOS which causes problems with unlocking it using Face ID or Touch ID. Our development team have solved that problem and we'll be publishing an update which includes that fix very very soon. :)
— Grey
It was "very very soon" a month ago. Will the problem be solved "very very very soon" or "very very very very soon" ?
Thanks

1Password will ask for Touch ID and fail 100% of the times and then ask for password. Tried everything even reinstalling the app.

I don't use my work iPad that often anymore. However I had to charge my macbook whilst Proctoring some tests. I now realize that my 1P will not open with Touch ID. So EVERY single time I had to open a spreadsheet that used a different account I had to tell the person "Hold on, I have a piece of non-functioning software. Please be patient." I'm on 16.2 and IP 8.9.7. This goes right along with the iOS Face ID not opening the app problem. That thread was started in August. How can it possibly take this long to fix these problems? Did you layoff your engineers or something?
This is an embarrassment. I'm expected to pay full price for a product that does not do what it says! And no the fix ISN'T to throw my password in every time, downgrade to v.7 or anything else. The proper fix is for the company to fix these problems. Will you be offering a discounted price for users when their subscriptions come up for renewal?

We need a specific communication that a fix has been made or wil be made and when.
Please be more upfront about this and communicate more frequently, even if it's bad news.

I am getting the same type of error for Face ID on my iPhone 12. And I also randomly getting an error that I need to "manually enter my password every two weeks".... even though I use iPassword on my iPhone several times a week.

On my iphone, whenever I log into 1Password I get the message "you need to enter your account password before you can use Touch ID". Touch ID is enabled in settings, yet it always requires me to use my password. IOS 15.7.1
