A timetable for the resolution of this annoying bug would be more than welcome

@mirv I would agree with it if it wasn't past 3 months since this started to happen AND if there was some official communication showing the "work around" to disable the extension.

I agree that this only happens with some [removed] people that decide to try OS Beta versions, whatever the reason behind they make that choice. Even tough we are paying customers and finding those bugs and reporting them is just another way to pay for it.

@HRD yes a timetable and more clear communication is the bare minimum they should provide to it's users.

I know this happened over the holidays, and effects mainly developers or folks on the cutting edge latest iOS beta, but the delay in rectifying this significant bug does not reflect the level of service and quality I have come to expect as a 1Password user and subscriber since 2009.

@dteare - is there a timetable for this solution?

I endorse @fancypantz comments. This should have been addressed by now.

@HRD – We're talking to Apple about how is best to tackle this, so the timeline isn't fully under our control right now. We're also developing our own workarounds for this. There's been some progress made there but as most folks on our teams have been away for the end-of-year holidays, things haven't been as full-throttle as they might be at other times of the year.

Long story short, we're aiming to get something in place to mitigate this as soon as possible, ideally before iOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3 become the normal public release version and this problem affects more customers beyond beta users. Sadly, with bugs that have their point of origin outside our code, it isn't always a straightforward affair to fix things, but we're working as quickly as we can and with as much help as we can get from Apple to sort this out. In the meantime, turning off the Safari extension should help stop the regular emails.

@david.m_1P Can you also add my account to the list of affected accounts? I receive the emails about 15 to 20 times a day. My iOS is 18.3 Beta and my Mac is on 15.2. This issue did start shortly after I went to iOS 18.3 Beta

I figured out why I was still getting the emails even though I had turned off the extension in Settings. It seems that this didn't really turn it off - I had to tap on the little puzzle piece icon in the Safari address bar and turn off the 1Password extension again from there, and then it worked - no more messages since then.

@david.m_1P Could you add me to the list too please? Because I use multiple devices I've been getting multiple emails per account per day (Work and Personal 1P accounts).

@david.m_1P, please add me to the list as well. Those emails pile up quite fast. I also am randomly presented with a web page to setup the browser extension. That page is quite intrusive because it hides the page I intended to open. I've now disabled the 1PW extension according to your note above.

I often get a “nag” pop up that tells me 1PW can sign me in automatically. Which I’ve had enabled for some time now.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate the reports. We've added you folks as affected users to our internal reporting.

    @TomWolsky

I'm sorry that you're still seeing the issue after turning off 1Password for Safari. Just to confirm, did you follow these steps:

    1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
    2. Tap Apps.
    3. Tap Safari.
    4. Tap Extensions.
    5. Tap 1Password.
    6. Turn off "Allow Extension".

Open Safari and make sure that you close all open tabs. Then fully close Safari on iOS and re-open Safari. If you still see the same issue then can you post a screenshot of what you see?

Honestly, it’s just crazy how this issue has been handled… 1password is all about security and trust from it’s userbase. As a long time user, receiving multiple emails about unrecognized device connecting to my account as false positives is a huge red flag, evenmore so when there is no immediate communication to explain this behavior to the users. I had to go and dig into the forum to ensure that nothing was wrong security wise. Now beta or not, guess what, ios is one of the most used OSs and you should expect users to use the beta or at least communicate very clearly about the impacts one may face when using the beta. Really it’s more about how this issue has been handled more than the issue in itself. Just my two cents

Sorry to keep harping on this, but I've found that once you turn off the extension, what is happening is that it goes back on by itself. I got about 20 of those emails today and noticed this. How do you completely delete the extension?

Unless I'm mistaken... where possible, enabled extensions will sync between Apple platforms. For example, if you turn it off on your iPhone but enable it on your Mac, it will get re-enabled on the phone.

@thatusernameistaken Good point, though I've already turned off Share Across Devices in Settings-Safari-Extensions on my iPhone and iPad. I don't see a way to do that on the Mac, other than turning off Safari under "Saved to iCloud" in the main iCloud settings. That would seem like overkill since it would probably turn off bookmark syncing etc. but this may call for heroic measures.

Edit: Actually I really should just turn off the 1Password for Safari extension on the mac completely and that will probably kill the emails.

@mirv I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but this zero feedback and total lack of communication from 1Password isn't what users would expect from them.

They can, and should, know users that are running their apps in beta, and at a minimum should have a flag somewhere alerting for non-expected behaviors like yours getting dozens of emails that would pop in some PM screen and start a review and communication process with users in the same situation.

Looks like the 1Password team went out to vacation/holidays and forgot about their customers.

@Apocalypse That's probably right. I also am concerned that since I have Private Relay on, the emails always show that I am at different locations. Seems like the usefulness of these messages trying to determine whether it is the same or a different device is really not there and there should be a way to just stop the messages completely.

I don’t know, we had private relay on before beta 18.3 and 15.3, and this didn’t happen….

@josephwit Good point. This should all just be fixed.

Hello everyone! Thank you for reaching out. I apologize for the lack of coherence in this thread, as I have combined multiple discussions into one.

Our development team is tracking a known issue with Safari 18.3 on a Mac and iOS 18.3 on the beta builds. This problem involves the extension storage in Safari 18.3 beta being cleared frequently, leading to users facing recurring sign-in notifications and the welcome screen while 1Password data is being repopulated. Direct feedback to Apple has been submitted, and our Development team is working on a solution.

As a temporary solution, I'd suggest turning off 1Password for Safari and utilizing Universal Autofill from the 1Password desktop app and the autofill feature on 1Password for iOS instead.

I hope that helps. Let me know if anyone has any questions or concerns.

Every time I restart my MacBook Pro or iPad, 1Password keeps opening a Safari Tab with an annoying login. Stop this. It's a waste of my time. And it interrupts my work flow when I'm in another page and suddenly it jumps to the login. I've done everything right, but some engineer at 1Password thinks they are doing something useful. It's not.

Pretty poor customer service response here, agreeing with the rest. And multiple threads with issues and asking for help with zero response. It's other users referring to other threads and trying to do the CS work. If you have a support community, you really owe it to the customers to respond. I've been asking since mid-December with no reply, even when tagging 1PW people...
