Sharepoint "Sign in with" prompt and Safari shortcuts

How does a user escalate a problem so that it actually gets to the developers' attention and prioritized as something that needs to be addressed?

As of January 2025, the issue reported about a 1P "Sign in with" popup within the OneDrive browser system persists. This was reported as early as May 2023. Are the developers doing anything about this?

Perhaps it's bad form to bring in other support threads here, but I reported a conflict in which the 1P Mac Safari browser extension hijacks a commonly used editing shortcut for strikethrough text for its own purposes. Sympathetic words from various folks at the company in this instance, offers for further assistance in the former thread, and yet no action from the developers in terms of improving the actual behavior.

If this were a free, or even nearly-free service I would have no grounds to complain, but this is very much a user-paid service, and it irks me to no end that support will gaslight us by saying things like we're working on it, when evidence would indicate the contrary.

I hit "enter" before finishing. Here's my system info:

    1Password for Mac 8.10.56 (81056028)
    Browser extension 8.10.56.28 in Safari
    Mac OS 13.3

    Hello @rickychitarrone! 👋

Thank you for following up on both issues and I'm sorry for the continued inconvenience. The issue where 1Password could display a "Sign in with" prompt is still open in our developer's backlog and I don't have any updates to share. If the prompt is getting in the way of your workflow then have you tried the workaround of turning off the "Sign in with" prompt entirely as suggested by my colleague here?

Perhaps it's bad form to bring in other support threads here, but I reported a conflict in which the 1P Mac Safari browser extension hijacks a commonly used editing shortcut for strikethrough text for its own purposes.

I know that we've discussed this in a previous thread but I'll summarize the situation here as well: Safari doesn't allow users to customize shortcuts for browser extensions and our development team has filed an issue with Apple to have this changed so that you can choose the best shortcut for your workflow. I'm not aware of any plans to change the Command-Shift-X shortcut to open 1Password for Safari at this time. The team would be reluctant to make such a change since this would change the shortcut for all users and not just users who are using a service where the same shortcut is being used.

Hopefully Apple adds this functionality in the future to achieve feature parity with other browsers like Chrome, Brave, Edge, Firefox, and more.

In the meantime, I do have a suggestion that might help: have you considered creating a Safari web app for Google Docs and turning off 1Password in that web app? Google Docs would then run in it's own Safari session without 1Password for Safari and you would avoid keyboard shortcut conflicts between the two services. You can even keep the web app in your Dock: Use Safari web apps on Mac - Apple Support (CA)

Alternatively, clicking the strikethrough formatting button from the toolbar of your text editor (rather than using a keyboard shortcut) is likely the most convenient option if the text editor that you're using doesn't allow you to change your keyboard shortcut for strikethrough to something else.

Disappointing, since the developers' choice to have hijacked a universal editing command for a 1P function that's redundant in the first place is just poor judgement.

Apps change their shortcuts on an ongoing basis, let's be honest. Any decision not to release that shortcut back to the OS (it's the same in Word and just about every other text-editing platform I can think of) comes across as nothing short of stubbornness rather than a willingness to address a programming mistake. By the same logic, it ought not to have fallen on the end user to re-assign an extension's shortcut (were it even changeable in Safari as it is in other browsers) that, given its broad, preexisting status across the OS and work-related apps, should never have been taken over by the shortcut to begin with. Seriously unimpressive news.

The wording on the preferences panel has changed somewhat. Would these be the current equivalents that I've switched off? Thanks.

Thank you for your patience. I've done some testing along with a colleague and I'm not able to bring up a "Sign in with" prompt at all in Safari. While saving or updating logins in your browser that use sign-in providers is only supported in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Brave, signing in with an already saved "Sign in with" provider should be working in Safari.

I'm investigating this further and will file an issue with our development team if I confirm a bug.

In the meantime, can you tell me if you're still able to see "Sign in with" prompts in Safari? If you do then can you post the following:

    1. The version of macOS that you're using: Find out which macOS your Mac is using - Apple Support
    2. The version of 1Password for Safari that you're using: How to keep 1Password up to date in your browser
    3. A screenshot of the "Sign in with" prompt that you see in Safari.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Dave. Would it help if I sent a screen video of the process where it comes up?

  • @rickychitarrone

That would be very helpful! Please sent an email to support+forum@1Password.com with a link to this thread to create a new support ticket.

After emailing in, you'll receive a reply from BitBot, our friendly robot assistant with a Support ID that looks something like [#ABC-12345-678]. Post that here, and I'll be able to locate your message and send you a secure upload link for your video recording. 🙂
