I'm happy to hear that the information I provided earlier has been helpful and that you'll wait for an update to 1Password for Safari. All is going well regarding working on a fix on the development team's side and it shouldn't be too much longer but I'll be sure to pop back into this thread once it's available.

All main browsers should work just fine with the 1Password browser extension and I've never encountered any issues with using Firefox in my daily use, so you should be fine too in the event you'd like to switch browsers.

I just received an email from 1Password customer support asking me to confirm my subscription to status updates(regarding SLS not working in Safari). Is this legitimate?

This is legitimate behavior from the 1Password Status website in order to protect unsolicited email addresses being signed up for updates and to help prevent spam.

FYI, the Safari Extension for iOS is still malfunctioning. More often than not I have to go to Safari settings on my devices and toggle the Extension off and back on to get it to work. I’m glad I found out about that. I’m looking forward to your confirmation when all of this has been fixed. Thank you.

I've tried everything that I found online and nothing works. I am very disappointed with 1Password. It used the be a great if not the best password app, but during the past few years it is getting worse and worse. Buggy, user experience is terrible. I end up wasting so much time. I would not be surprised if other users would feel the same way.

Hi, I have the same problem (same version numbers on all components on two different MacBook Pros:
    1Password Version: 8.10.40
    Extension Version: 2.27.1
    OS Version: macOS 14.6.1
    Browser: Safari )

My safari extension log looks like this:

However, toggling the extension off and on does not activate TouchID back.

Despite being up to date for both the desktop and Safari apps, and despite unlinking, closing, and relinking both, the 1Password for Safari App keeps asking for me to manually enter my password (doesn't even give the option for Touch ID) even though the desktop app allows for Touch ID. Any solutions?

The Touch ID misbehavior seems to be another issue from the 1Password desktop app. Therefore, I'd like to ask you to send in some diagnostics to our support so we can take a closer look at things:

Then, email us with the diagnostic at:

    support+forum@1Password.com

  • @The Doctor ,

May I confirm if you can still use Touch ID to unlock the 1Password 8 desktop app? If so, the Touch ID feature is working as expected.

Since the Touch ID feature is from the 1Password desktop app, due to the connection issue I mentioned above, we cannot utilize Touch ID to unlock 1Password for Safari currently. I'm sorry about the inconvenience and confusion it caused.

Yes, for me it's exactly the same.

Reinstalled the extension, restarted the desktop app, and Safari, restarted my Mac...nothing works.

    Hi @kevin.li
I also have the same issue. I can use TouchID in the 1Password app, but the connection issue in safari means that it is useless in that browser. Sounds like a patch is being worked on. Any idea of the sort of timeframe we are looking at for a fix? Thanks

I've made no changes to 1Password, Safari, or IOS. I no longer have the option to use it; I'm always prompted to enter my 1Password password. I have gone into System Settings and entered and enabled Touch ID. I redid my finger print and also made sure all touch IDs are turned on. Releases are:

    • MAC OS; 13.2 (Ventura)
    • Safari: 16.3
    • 1Password: 8.10.40

    Thanks, Bob

+1 - this started happening for me a few days ago. Made sure I was up to date for desktop and safari apps, safari/MacOS is up to date, and I restarted both Safari and the entire Mac, and it still happens. Works fine in the desktop app, just not in Safari - there, I have to re-enter password

@kevin.li yes, I can confirm Touch ID still works as expected with the main 1password app. If I understand you correctly, the extension is actually using the main app for its unlock functionality so because the extension and app are not connected because of the bug, the touch ID functionality is likewise effected.

There are a few other threads on this, but the methods described are not working for me. I am running Mac OS 14.6.1, 1PW 8.10.40, 1PW for Safari 2.27.1 and Safari 17.6.

Touch ID is available for opening the 1PW app. But whenever I engage 1PW from safari, I am asked to enter a password, with no option for Touch ID.

This previously worked flawlessly. Looks like same issue with Chrome.

We've identified a connection problem between the 1Password for Safari web extension and the 1Password for Mac desktop app, which is causing 1Password for Safari to require a separate unlock from the desktop app. Our development team is working on a fix, though I don't have an exact timeline for when it will be available. You can monitor the status of this issue here:

I apologize for the inconvenience and any confusion this may have caused, and I appreciate your understanding.

In the meantime, the connection should work properly in other supported browsers, like Chrome you mentioned. Therefore, I'd think you're running into another issue with Chrome. I'd like to ask you to send in some diagnostics to our support so we can take a closer look at things:

Apologies for the trouble you've all been experiencing with 1Password for Safari and no longer being able to unlock the extension with Touch ID unlike the desktop app. The development team have been made aware of the broken integration between 1Password for Safari and the 1Password desktop app and currently have a fix in the works. The update containing the fix should be rolled out as soon as possible and you can keep up with updates on 1Password Status: 1Password Status - SLS not working in Safari.

In the meantime, you can manually unlock 1Password for Safari separate from the desktop app and continue using it as normal to create, fill, and save items on the web. Alternatively, you can use the 1Password browser extension in another browser, such as Chrome or Firefox, since the integration with the desktop app in those browsers are unaffected.

  • @jazzman

The team are also aware of the trouble you've mentioned with 1Password for Safari on iOS and are preparing a fix for that issue. The workaround of toggling the extension each time Safari closes is the only way we've discovered in order to get it functioning again but the fix will resolve this once rolled out soon.

    @Coldorak

I do apologize that you're running into this issue in 1Password for Safari on your Mac. This is the issue I've mentioned in my initial reply in this thread where the development team were made aware of it over the weekend and have been working on a fix since. You can continue unlocking 1Password for Safari separately from the desktop app or use another browser in the meantime since the integration between the 1Password browser extension and desktop app is functioning as normal.

Thank you @jac.pd_1p, I've subscribed to the SLS ticket mentioned above.

  • @jonhopkins & @The Doctor

Yes, the touch ID functionality is affected by the connection issue. You can still use the 1Password for Safari web extension independently. But you will need to unlock it with your 1Password account password.

Our development team is working on a fix, though I don't have an exact timeline for when it will be available. You can monitor the status of this issue here:

I'm having issues with Touch ID in the extension. It had disappeared completely in extension and app. I followed previous steps to shut down Mac, reset Touch ID in both Mac settings and 1Password. It reappears in app, but not in extension. Also extension no longer mirroring status of app (unlocked, etc)

  • @DavidB

I can see that my colleague answered your email request.

I'm sorry that I might misunderstood your issue from the thread above. May I confirm if you can use Touch ID to unlock your 1Password desktop app?

Because the biometric unlock feature is from the 1Password desktop app. So, it is expected that you cannot utilize biometric methods to unlock the 1Password for Safari web extension due to the current connection issue.
