I'm having the same issue it's very hard to go back to putting in a lengthy password to open the browser extension so it's rendered the browser extension basically useless. Patch soon please, thanks.

Thanks for responding. I guess I'll wait for the fix. Now that I don't have it, I really miss the convenience.

    1Password 8.10.40 (81040031), 1Password for Safari 2.27.1 (22700103), macOS Sequoia beta 15.0 (24A5331b), Sfari 18.0

I've noticed what I think is a behaviour change since a recent update of either 1Password or 1Password for Safari.

My 1Password/1Password for Safari security settings are as per the attached screenshots.

It used to be that both 1Password and 1Password for Safari would remain unlocked for me most of the time (how I wanted it to be) and if I did need to unlock one or the other I could use Touch ID or my Apple Watch to do so. Now I find that:

    • 1Password for Safari locks whenever I quit Safari. I'm pretty sure it did not used to do that.

    • 1Password for Safari does not allow me to use TouchID or Watch to unlock it. When I have to unlock it it always requires my password (1Password itself happily unlocks with TouchID and/or Watch).

Has this behaviour changed recently? If so, is there any way to revert it to the earlier behaviour (which is much better from my perspective).

How could this ship/be updated without testing? What is going on at 1Password?

This just happened. For some reason I can no longer use touch ID on my iMac in Safari Extension to unlock 1Password. I'm sure it's a setting somewhere. I've tried several fixes to no avail. What am I doing wrong? I'm frustrated to say the least.

As far as I know, 1password did not update their app or safari extension. It's probably a silent update on apple's side. Only Apple Os can update silently. Other apps have not enough power over the system to do that.

I literally came here to report this issue and am glad it is known and a fix is in process.

I have the same issue. This is really beyond comprehension that 1Password is overriding a user's control of decisions that they have already made. It is burning time of the end-user for absolutely no gain in security except from the user who already logged into their machine.

    Revert this change!

Same problem here. When I first noticed the problem, every time I would type my password to unlock 1Password for Safari it would open the 1Password login page on a new tab. Eventually I went ahead and signed in there and now at least that doesn't happen every time, but Touch ID and Apple Watch unlock no longer work, nor does unlocking the 1Password app. It requires manually typing the password in Safari.

  • Hi @ChrisJenkins & @cvadmin

Apologies for the trouble you're experiencing with 1Password for Safari on your Mac where your security settings are out of sync between the 1Password browser extension and desktop app. The development team have been made aware of an issue that arose with 1Password for Safari over the weekend which broke the integration between the two and are working on a fix.

We're pushing to have this fix available on the App Store as soon as possible but you can continue unlocking 1Password for Safari manually after Safari is re-opened or you can temporarily switch to another browser like Chrome or Firefox since the 1Password browser extension isn't affected there.

You can also keep an eye out for developments on the 1Password Status website here: 1Password Status - SLS not working in Safari.

  • Hi everyone! @JerrySG @dragon1 @asrob @BrainD @tetardbleu @dcrdev @JasonN @dtoub

Apologies for the silence over the last day since Kevin provided you all with an update on this issue in 1Password for Safari. Today is Labor Day in the US & Canada which meant most of my colleagues have been away from their computers over this long weekend.

The good news is that the development team have identified the root cause of the issue that randomly broke the integration between 1Password for Safari and the desktop app and are working on getting a fix out as soon as possible. This wasn't due to a bug in an new update by 1Password or macOS so no faulty updates are at play here.

There's some final things for the team to check over once folks come back into the virtual office from tomorrow but you can keep an eye out for developments on the 1Password Status website: 1Password Status - SLS not working in Safari.

This hiccup in the integration only affects 1Password for Safari which means you can continue using it and unlock your 1Password account manually each time Safari closes and reopens until the fix is available. Alternatively, you can temporarily switch over to another browser where the 1Password browser extension integration to the desktop app is still working as expected.

  • Hi @stein

Apologies for the trouble you've encountered with 1Password for Safari where the integration to the desktop app has stopped working. As @danco mentioned, this is a known issue that popped up over the weekend and the development team have been hard at work investigating.

The good news is that the root cause has been identified and a fix is in the works as we speak. We're hoping to have this available as soon as possible so be sure to keep 1Password for Safari updated on your Mac and you can keep an eye out for developments on the 1Password Status website:

  • Hi @jazzman

Apologies for the trouble you're experiencing no longer being able to unlock 1Password for Safari with Touch ID on your iMac. This is due to an unexpected issue that arose over the weekend but the development team have identified the root cause and are working on a fix for this bug. I recommend keeping 1Password for Safari updated and keeping an eye out on the incident page for updates:

In the meantime, you can manually unlock 1Password for Safari with your account password and use it as normal until a fix is available to resolve the broken integration. You can also switch to another non-Safari browser as the 1Password browser extension and integration to the desktop app is functioning as normal there.

  • Hi @gaolson

I do apologize for the trouble you've encountered with 1Password for Safari on your Mac where you're no longer able to unlock it with Touch ID. As @dragon1 has pointed out, this is a known issue that arose over the weekend and the team are working on a fix to be released as soon as possible. You can keep an eye out for updates regarding this issue on the 1Password Status website: 1Password Status - SLS not working in Safari.

In the meantime, whilst waiting for a fix to become available, you can manually unlock your 1Password account in 1Password for Safari before being able to use it as normal. Alternatively, you can use another browser like Chrome or Firefox since the integration between the 1Password browser extension and the desktop app is working as normal there.

  • Hi @WayneV

Apologies for the trouble you're experiencing with 1Password for Safari not sharing the same lock state as the desktop app on your Mac. As @shrimppesto pointed out, this is a known issue that's on the radar of our development team and they're working on releasing a fix for this issue that arose over the last few days. You can keep an eye out for updates regarding this issue on the 1Password Status website here: 1Password Status - SLS not working in Safari.

In the meantime, you can continue unlocking 1Password for Safari manually before being able to continue using it to create, fill, and save information on the web. The 1Password browser extension and integration with the desktop app is also working fine in all other non-Safari browsers in case you would like to temporarily switch over to Chrome or Firefox until this fix is available.

In addition to touch ID not working in the safari extension, it also isn't syncing locked status with the main app. That is, I'm prompted to unlock Safari 1P, but if I open the main 1P app it's already unlocked.

Yep...to be clear, there are two issues.

    1) Safari Extension is disconnected from App...which @kevin.li stated above and...
    2) Safari Extension no longer accepts TouchID, which is arguably an even more impactful bug, especially for those with complex master passwords.

I have no idea whether 1&2 are related, but wanted to make sure to bring to y'all's attention that there are, in fact, two issues.

    Hope this helps!

I have the same issue, and just want to note that: Not only does the Safari extension not unlock along with the Mac app, but the Safari extension is requiring that I type my password. Neither My MacBook Air's Touch ID nor my Apple Watch are available to use for login. Needless to say, this makes the issue even more cumbersome.

    Hi @jac.pd_1p

Thanks for your response. It looks like things are working somewhat on my iOS devices for the moment. I hope that continues although it’s not seamless as it was before all this occurred. Touch ID is still not working on my iMac but, rather than using another browser, I think I’ll wait a few days and see if it gets resolved. I’m generally very happy with Safari. I’ll see if a little patience pays off. I’ve used 1Password for ten years now, and problems have always been resolved quickly. I’ll just wait and see what happens. If it is not resolved, I may switch browsers. Do you have an opinion on Firefox?

Hi there, I am getting the following error in Safari. Because of it, I have to type my password into the browser every time, even when the app is open.

When the extension and the desktop app are connected, they lock and unlock together. Biometrics will be used if available. [Status: Problems connecting . Please make sure the 1Password app is unlocked.]

    Hi @jac.pd_1p

By the way, I just received an email from 1Password customer support asking me to confirm my subscription to status updates(regarding SLS not working in Safari). Is this legitimate? I don’t want to be falling for some scam or phishing attempt.

All was working fine until a few days ago. Now need to unlock 1PW Extension separately.

I recently upgraded to Mac OS 14.6.1 from 14.5 but I'm not sure if that was when this problem arose. Sorry.

    Any recommendations appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi @kevin.li,

Thanks for the update. In case it matters, for me it's not just that 1Password for Safari has to be unlocked separately from the desktop app, it's that Touch ID doesn't work for that; instead, I have to enter my password.

I'll have to point out the quick response from Jac and 1Password. I wrote specific feedback at 16:08, and as you can see Jac was responding the thread to us at 16:24. Highly responsive in my book and much appreciated given how obtrusive password managers are to workflow.

    Thank you, Jac.

    https://1password.community/discussion/144454/1password-safari-browser-extension-is-locked#latest

I had this problem in the past and was able to resolve it but now I have the same problem on my personal Mac Mini but not my corporate MB Pro. I tried restarting and reinstalling the extension in Safari with no luck. I am forced to unlock 1Pass extension in Safari manually. The updated version of 1P no longer shows the connection between the browser and the app. The problem is only happening in Safari and not Chrome.

I did some more testing and confirmed that the browser extension is out of sync with the app. If I lock the app the extension remains unlocked which is a big security issue.

I have this same problem, latest MacOS 14.6.1 and latest Safari extension. Every time I ope the browser, the extension is locked, and I have to sign in manually. Only been happening for the last several days. I've integrated the extension with the app, restarted, etc. Irritating glitch

Safari extension... Need I say more!

I've tried every solution multiple times and it continues to require unlocking manually. Any chance of it being fixed?
